FALMOUTH BASS BOAT 20 SPECIFICATION
Article from the FBB Bulletin Spring 1989 Update:
The 36th London International Boat Show was selected as the venue for the launch of a significant new boat for the increasingly popular 'traditional boat market'.
The Falmouth Bass Boat 20, as the boat has been christened, is not only a major event for the Falmouth Bass Boat Company but also Rodney Warrington Smyth, under the guise of Merthen Trust Ltd, who designed the original Bass Boat over thirty years ago.
Part of the design brief was to include the provision of a cabin version so that the cabin and cabin top would blend comfortably with the hull.
All of the renowned features of the 16' Bass Boat, such as good seakindliness and good sailing ability were to be retained; there would be new features as well, the most interesting addition being the provision of a ballast system to reduce the tendency of users to over-load the boat with too many people or too much equipment; thus the new boat would be designed to float to its normal datum waterline whether there are two people aboard or several.
An inboard diesel engine should be provided as standard but users could opt for an alternative configuration using an outboard.
Bouyancy was another important safety aspect to be considered and this was to be further increased over and above that normally required.
As on the 16' Bass Boat an alternative rig should be offered, Ketch on the standard with Bermudan as an option.
These design considerations have resulted in a comfortable and attractive boat of considerable ability, a thoroughbred heritage and professional attention to detail have made the Bass Boat 20 a serious competitor in the market place.
